A Public Sound Intervention in the streets of Amman, Jordan
December 6th - 11th 2009

The Gas Car Project is a work that engages the audience of an entire city through a unique phenomenon to Amman; pick-ups that distribute gas cylinders to the houses, who use a melody transmitted on a megaphone to announce their presence to the inhabitants. In reality, the sound of the melody is the only other sound after the Mosques' call for prayer that reaches everyone in the city.

The use of sound as a medium will (in its physical nature) reach a very large number of the inhabitants of the city. The project also hopes to engage people in thinking and discussing this daily occurrence in Jordanian life.

مشروع سيارات الغاز
هو ثمرة تعاون ما بين الفنانة الأردنية سماح حجاوي والفنان الألماني جونه.
مداخلة في المساحات العامة باستخدام الصوت من قبل سيارات بيع الغاز في عمّان، خلال الفترة من 6-11 كانون أول 2009.

مشروع سيارات الغاز بقدر ما له من جمهور من المستعمين وعلى نطاق واسع، سيعمل على إشراك المدينة بأكملها من خلال ظاهرة فريدة من نوعها في عمان. فإن سيارات الغاز التي تقوم بتوزيع اسطوانات الغاز إلى المنازل وفي جميع أرجاء المدينة تستخدم النغمة من خلال مكبرات الصوت لتعلن سكان المدينة عن وجودها. ولعل الصوت الوحيد الذي يسمح بسماعه في عمان، إلى جانب صوت الأذان، هو صوت سيارات بيع الغاز.

استخدام الصوت (بطبيعته المادية) كوسيلة، من شأنه أن يصل إلى عدد كبير جدا من سكان المدينة. كما يأمل المشروع أن يدفع الناس إلى التفكير في هذا الشأن الحياتي اليومي للأردنيين
