Inside / Outside (2008) Video Installation 6’39”(video, sound, sand, room)

Inside/Outside is a split screen video and sound installation of different activities in a near by stone quarry. The work is projected onto a pile of sand from the same quarry inside an old historical house in the village of Shatana, which is located in close to proximity to the quarries. The winds carry the fine dust into the inhabitants' homes and cripples local produce. Ironically, the quarry lands were sold or leased by Shatana's inhabitants.

The work looks at this warped relationship. On the one hand, the sand inside the home is mimicking / exaggerating the reality. On the other, it is presenting the idea that this is the result of decisions taken from these same homes.

تجهيز فيديو بثلاث قنوات وصوت لنشاطات مختلفة تقع في كسّارات الحجر القريبة. يُعرض العمل مسلّطا على كومة رمل من الكسّارة ذاتها داخل بيت تاريخيّ في قرية شطنا، التي تقع بالقرب من كسّارات الحجر. تحمل الرياح الغبار الناعم إلى البيوت المسكونة وتشلّ إنتاج الفاكهة والخضار المحلّي. والسخريّة في الأمر هو أن بائعي أرض الكسّارات أو مؤجّريها هم من أهل شطنا.

يتفحّص العمل هذه العلاقة المشوّهة. من ناحية، يقلّد الرمل داخل البيت الواقع بشكل فيه مبالغة، ومن ناحية ثانية، يصوّر فكرة أنّ هذه هي نتيجة قرارات اتّخذت في هذه البيوت ذاتها.
