An intervention with art and sound at the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Art.
Part of an ongoing investigation around visual practices in Jordan, Samah Hijawi's multi-layered collaborative and documentation project that questions the position of art and it’s reception in Jordan. The artist uses works from two institutions that play a role in visual art education in Jordan; The Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts and the University of Jordan. While they have different functions, both institutions play a passive and active role in defining an aesthetic language and understanding of ‘fine arts’. The interrogation brings forward questions on formal and informal art education in relation to the status of these principle institutions; the work thus inquires into the projected 'role of art in a society,' and the part played by the institution in creating definitions for the arts.

مداخلة باستخدام لوحات وصوت في المتحف الوطني الاردني للفنون الجميلة،١٢ كانون الثاني ٢٠١١
هذا العمل جزء من تحرٍ قائم تجريه سماح حول الممارسات البصرية في الأردن، حيث طوّرت مشروعا توثيقيا وتعاونيّا متعدد الطبقات يتناول أسئلة عن موضع الفن في الأردن وتفاعل الناس معه. تستخدم الفنانة أعمالا من مؤسستين أردنيتين تلعبان دورا في الثقافة البصريّة في الأردن، أولهما، المتحف الوطني الأردني للفنون الجميلة وثانيهما، الجامعة الأردنية. بالرغم من اختلاف وظائف هاتين المؤسستين، إلا إنهما تلعبان دورا فعّالا، وفي نفس الأثناء، سلبيّا في فهم الفنون الجميلة وفي التعريف عن لغة تتناول الجماليّات. يثير هذا التحرّي المزيد من الأسئلة حول التعليم الرسمي والغير رسمي للفن في الأردن بالنسبة لمركز هاتين المؤسستين الرئيستين، وبالتالي يتحرّى العمل في "دور الفن في المجتمع" والدور الذي تلعبه هذه المؤسسات في ابتكار تعريفات للفنون.
